Peo Pettersson and Dan Boström met and became friends in the mid to late eighties, playing in different bands respectively.

A few years later Peo recorded with LEVITICUS and toured the world as their lead singer, while Dan played in local rock and AOR bands, mostly in clubs and churches. They continued during the 90’s to play in different bands and constellations.

In the early 90’s, Dan was invited to Peo for a preview of his highly acclaimed solo debut, “Look what I’ve started” (co-written with Rod West, Australia), and they both shared demos of music ideas. But it wasn’t until the turn of the Millenia that the two friends decided to start writing music together.

From the early 2000’s to the present day, both guys have also worked on their own projects. Peo has continued to produce other artists, release several solo albums and record with LIMITED EDITION and NOCTURNE ALLIANCE. Dan has explored the world of progressive metal, jazz and fusion with local fellow musicians and been writing music for his project BEYOND KNOWN.

Living a ninety minutes drive apart and working just a few weekends a year, KINGS & DREAMS began as more of a side project than a band. But soon Peo and Dan found that their collaboration and songwriting was something beyond a friendly jam.

At the time Peo recorded everything on tape (something he would late return to after a decade in the digital jungle). Peo and Dan have written, mixed and produced the whole album. Most of the material was recorded at Peo’s studio in Götene in the western countryside, and occasionally in Dan’s studio in Jönköping. Trying to migrate into the world of digital recording, Dan and Peo built their songs initially on guitars, keyboards, samplings and programmed drums. But after a few years they decided to throw it away and start afresh with real musicians.

In came drummers Peter Björklund (Jazz drummer / Independent), Petter Karlsson (THERION, HOLOCOASTER) and Bengan Andersson (Johan Randen, MACHINE, NIVA, PEO, Lena PH), and excellent bassists Björn Millton (SALT) and Simon Dahlström (LAVA ENGINE, BEYOND KNOWN). With a new solid base to their songs, Peo and Dan re-arranged and re-recorded what had now become a full length album.

Although both had their roots in blues and hard rock, they’ve also found inspiration in classical, jazz, pop, soul, fusion. Never compromising on melody, KINGS & DREAMS will continue to follow in the footsteps of JOURNEY, TOTO, ABBA, MR. MISTER, but a bit more hard rock oriented. In 2011 KINGS & DREAMS released a teaser, a promotion single with two songs from the upcoming album; the smooth and soulful “It’s Been So Long” and the more mysterious and dreamy rock shuffle “How Can I Go On”. Fellow musicians and producers gave praise and labelled it “World class” and eagerly awaited more.

And finally, thirteen years after the initial jam session, KINGS & DREAMS debut album was released. 11 strong songs ranging from pop, soul to hard rock. Peo, “One of AOR’s Best Voices” (Amazon.com review), does most of the lead vocals, with Dan singing the lead on “In Your Arms”, “Mayday” and “Save My Soul”.

The lyrics are thoughtful, honest and deal with relations to life, people and places and are meant to raise hope and faith in the listener.

What maybe makes KINGS & DREAMS special, aside from good songwriting, great vocals, great guitar playing and strong melodies, is the “good spiritual and positive vibe about them” (according to a CD BABY review).

This marks the start of KINGS & DREAMS journey. KINGS & DREAMS is no more a side project… In the future, Peo and Dan will continue to release albums and also work with other artists when and if there’s time.

S-ROCK: First of all would you introduce yourself as this is the 1st time for us to have an interview with you.

Peo: I started playing with various local bands 1978.
At this time, I played most hard rock with classical symphonic influences.
1980 I started my own studio, where I started recording and producing my own music as well as other Swedish artists and bands.

1983 my band X-Ray was opening act for Joan Jett & THE BLACK HEARTS.
As Joan just had her hit (I Love Rock’N Roll) we had full houses all around.
This period I gained good experience and learned a lot about tour life and to meet a large audience.

Between 1980 and 1990, I recorded and produced over a hundred albums.
It was different genres, everything between punk rock and top list music.

1988 I was offered to be the lead singer in the band LEVITICUS that I had previously recorded and produced. It was three long US tours and two Soviet tours, also Australia and throughout Europe. We toured almost 15 countries for over 4 years.

1989 we went to the U.S. again to record a new album with Dino and John Elefante. (John Elefante American singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer, known for his tenure as frontman of KANSAS, from 1981 to 1984.)
The same year LEVITICUS released the album Knights of Heaven.

1990 I decided to do my first solo album.
I then worked with Rod West, songwriter and producer from Australia.
I met Rod on tour in Australia 1988.
We became good friends and decided to write music together.

A few years later I released my first solo album (LOOK WHAT I’VE STARTED).
I received many good reviews around the world, for example BURRN! in Japan.
The album sold well and I continued to work with Rod. We kept writing songs together and also had releases with other artists.

1994 I got a contract as a songwriter at UNIVERSAL MUSIC.
For 6 years I worked full time on writing music. At this time, I wrote and produced about 50 songs per year. It was a hard pace!

Alongside song writing I also studied at the ACADEMY OF MUSIC in Stockholm for 2 years.

1995, I wrote my first hit which was number one on the charts in Sweden recorded by a Swedish dance band.

1998, I had another number one hit with the group JOYRIDE.

In 2000 I was completely tired of writing music and took a break.
I concentrated on my own music again and released the same year the album THE MAN BEHIND THE FACE.

I worked on and released in the 2000’s 6 more solo albums:
MY ACOUSTIC WORKS 1 (2007), BETTER NOT FORGET (2009), CLIMBING TO THE SUN (2010), OVER AND OVER AGAIN (2011), THE HARDEST ROCK (2011), FIREPLACE (2013).

During the 2000’s also began my collaboration with Dan Boström in what was to become KINGS & DREAMS.
We decided to make an uncompromising album that had to take its own time without a deadline.

I have by now produced and recorded about 250 albums with various artists and bands.
Although I have had some success and luck in my career I also know that it is just hard work that makes you succeed. It is also true that I have sacrificed much else in my life to get to my goal.

Dan: I started to play the guitar at the age of 12, inspired by my uncle Janne who played Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia and Bach for me. I started a local rock band at 13 with borrowed instruments. My parents bought me a Les Paul copy and a PA system. We played at local venues and recorded a song in the studio of a scout leader.
My guitar hero were Eddie van Halen at that time.

A friend of mine in high school, guitar virtuoso Roger Ljunggren (NIVA, GRAND ILLUSION, T’BELL), introduced me to many good musicians and groups and I got particularly hooked on Journey.

I later joined a gospel group and got to learn a wider spectrum of music. This is also when I got introduced to Westcoast/AOR music. We played in the local cafes and churches, but also toured Poland in -91.

In the late 80’s I also played in a few symphonic/progressive rock groups, playing and writing songs with odd time signatures.
I participated on a few recordings with backing vocals and guitar, but nothing big.
At this time there were several rock bands in the area, and I met Peo through mutual friends.

I got married in 1990 to the love of my life and we have two daughters, both aestetic and musically gifted.

In the 90’s I worked as a pastor and continued to write music and worship songs. I played in mostly small venues and also started to tutor guitar students privately.

I joined the band HEARTCRY in 1998. We made some gigs and almost finished an album a year later, but laid the band to rest when the founder had to move with his family. At this time I and Peo reunited and became very good friends.

The friendship and collaboration with Peo has meant a lot to me. We’ve worked together musically for almost fifteen years now in KINGS & DREAMS and with other bands and artists. I think we have a special bond, both spiritually and musically. About half of the time we’re solving philosophical problems or technical issues. So no rush there. The music takes its time.

During the 2000’s I’ve also experimented with writing different kinds of music in a fellowship project called ´BEYOND KNOWN´. I’ve played on a worship album in England, produced a couple of records and also played on other side projects. I’ve continued to give guitar lessons. Lately I have written acoustic guitar pieces for meditation and hope to release some of those next year.

S-ROCK: Would you let us know each track from the 1st album “KINGS & DREAMS”, which song(s) do you like? What do you want people to pay attention carefully when they listen to the album?

Peo&Dan:

1. Two Thousand Miles

Peo: I have always loved the sound from the Hammond organ and in this song you can clearly hear my desire for this amazing instrument. Together with Dan’s brilliant guitar playing this will be a nice mix!

Dan: This song is about following your heart wherever it leads you and regardless of what people around you may think. A great uptempo song!

2. In Your Arms

Peo: Even if the song is good overall I like the verse very much! Fine atmosphere and great lead vocals!

Dan: A very poetic song about the sacred love between a man and a woman. Originally written on acoustic guitar, we spiced it up with another great Hammond solo from Peo and guitar melodies in the chorus and outro.

3. Moments Of Grace

Peo: One of the first songs we wrote together. The guitar solo is short but stunning!

Dan: What we take to be “moments of grace” in our lives can actually turn out to be our selfish hunt for fame and ruin our inner life. I like this song, since it paved the way for later compositions. Great bass playing by Björn Millton.

4. It’s Been So Long

Peo: This song is special to us. It represents all those influences we have received over the years. You can hear the pop, rock but also a whiff of soul and jazz.

Dan: About a man returning to his small town after many years and rediscovering his roots. This laid back song was recorded using a loop, a door frame, a plastic juice bottle and Peo’s knees for percussion (!) and a sampled chord from a symphonic orchestra at the end. Mixed with beauty by Peo. A radio hit?

5. Mayday

Peo: Typical AOR inspired from the 80’s.

Dan: I like the mix of hardrock guitars in a AOR/westcoast song, and the modulation of chords in the chorus. Peo also forced me to do dual harmonies in the solo.

6. Give It All Up

Peo: Nice and slow!

Dan: Also one of our first songs, showcasing the width in Peo’s great singing. 48 voices of backing vocals to do the subtle Oooh’s during the solo.

7. Save My Soul

Peo: Dan is the powerful engine of this song.

Dan: From our heavy artillery, a flirt with the hard rock and metal we played years ago. Great drumming by Petter Karlsson.

8. Stay With Me

Peo: Strong chorus. Emotions, passion, love.

Dan: The rock ballad of the album. This was the very first song we wrote together, feeling each other out in this gentle and passionate song.

9. Mirror Mirror

Peo: A song about a beautiful wife and one happy man! The song is good too!

Dan: I love to play these powerful riffs! The chorus is about being proud of your loved one.

10. Down The Road

Peo: The story of two buddies struggling through all of life’s circumstances; joy, pain, successes, setbacks.

Dan: Peo is a great guitar player. He played the intro licks and set the tone for the rest of the song. We produced this as a more straightforward rock song with focus on energy and not so much on bling…

11. How Can I Go On

Peo: This song is my favorite on the album. Mysterious intro, bluesy vocals. And heavy chorus.

Dan: This is also my favorite. A 6/8 shuffle. Atmosphere, arpeggiated keyboard, sliced delays to create a pulsating vibe. A great car driving song. And Björn Millton’s bass playing is world class.

S-ROCK: How do you have an idea to compose and to write lyrics? Music first or lyrics first?

Peo: Most often the music first and then the lyrics. But there are also exceptions.

Dan: Yes, especially when you’re jamming with other musicians. But I also like to write lyrics first and let that rhythm guide the music.

S-ROCK: You guys have played at Husaren, Skövde a couple of times, what is the strongest point of your gig to see?

Peo: We had the pleasure of playing with some of our favorite musicians:

Tommie Pettersson Keyboards
Linus Pettersson Guitars
These guys are experienced musicians and we rehearsed only one day before the gig!
Everything went very smoothly.

Dan: Yes, these guys are consummate professionals and very easy to work with. I think that the songs “Down The Road”and “Save My Soul” rocked the audience most.

S-ROCK: Peo, you joined LETIVICUS late 80’s and recorded “KNIGHTS OF HEAVEN”. THE BEST OF LEVITICUS was released in Japan from ZERO CORPORATION as well. Do you mind talking about the band?

Peo: I recorded and produced several albums of Leviticus. In the late 80’s, I became the lead singer and keyboard player. We toured all over the world and had great success for many years.

S-ROCK: Dan, you did the artwork for this KINGS & DREAMS album, what does this building (the castle?) symbolize?

Dan: This castle was built by a Count to his wife as a summer retreat house. It symbolizes a refuge, a place not only for kings but also for us ordinary people in need for a rest and to reignite our dreams. And that is one of the goals we have: to spread comfort, faith, hope and energy for those around us.

S-ROCK: What is your goal as a musician? How about as yourself?

Peo: I recently got married and bought a house in the Philippines. I now plan to build a studio there and will move away from Sweden in a few years. The reason for this is the cold climate in Sweden and my desire for sun and heat. The music will always be with me and if I can be healthy and creative I hope that I’ll get to do many more albums.

Dan: My goal as a musician and as a person is the same: to point people to another dimension in life where there’s joy, fellowship, trust and love. To do this more I hope that we can sell albums and earn our living so that we can continue to support and bless fans and fellow musicians in the future.

S-ROCK: Let us know your taste of music, your favorite musicians/bands.

Peo: DEEP PURPLE, WHITESNAKE, JOURNEY, BOSTON, KANSAS, SUPERTRAMP, AIR SUPPLY.

Dan: Bach, JOURNEY, Allan Holdsworth, Richard Page, Stephen Simmonds, TOTO, Glenn Hughes, ABBA.

S-ROCK: What do you image from a word “Japan”?

Peo: A country where people love music and still have the glow and passion for the ideals and artists. And that also buys CDs which allows the artist to continue record and produce music.

Dan: I totally agree!

S-ROCK: Would you give a message to your Japanese fans and S-ROCK site visitors, tack så mycket!

Peo: Thanks to all of you who listen to our music. Keep eyes and ears open for our next album!

S-ROCK: お２人とのインタビューは今回が初めてですので、まずは自己紹介をお願い出来ますか？

Peo: 俺は1978年に色々な地元のバンドと演り始めたんだ。当時はクラシカルでシンフォニックな影響を受けたHRを主に演っていたよ。
1980年に自分のスタジオの運営を始めた、他のスウェーデンのアーティストやバンドの作品と同様に、自分自身の音楽を録音してプロデュースする事を始めた場なんだ。

1983年には自分のバンドX-RAYがJoan Jett ＆THE BLACK HEARTSのオープニング・アクトを務めた。当時JoanはI Love Rock’N Rollで大ヒットしていたから、何処へ行っても大盛況だった。
当時経験を重ね、ツアー生活や大規模な会場で観客を前にする事について多くを学んだんだ。

80年代と90年代の間には100を超えるアルバムを録音、プロデュースした。異なるジャンル、パンクからヒットチャートを駆け上る様なもの迄何でもやったよ。

1988年には、かつて録音・プロデュースしたLETIVICUSのリードVoにならないかと誘われたんだ。３回の長い全米ツアーと２回のソビエト・ツアー、オーストラリア、欧州ツアーをやった。４年間でほぼ15カ国を回ったんじゃないかな。

1989年に新作の録音の為Dino & John Elefanteと再びアメリカへ行った。John Elefanteはアメリカのシンガー・ソングライターで楽器演奏もし、プロデューサーもする人物。81年から84年迄KANSASのフロントマンだった事で知られているよ。
同じ年にLEVITICUSはKNIGHTS OF HEAVENアルバムを発表したんだ。

1990年には自身初のソロアルバムを製作する事を決めた。そしてオーストラリア出身の作曲家でプロデューサーのRod Westと仕事をしたんだ。1988年にオーストラリア・ツアー中に彼に逢ったよ。いい友達になって一緒に音楽を作ろうと合意したのさ。

２、３年後俺のソロアルバムLOOK WHAT I’VE STARTEDが発売されたよ。世界中でいいレビューを貰ったさ、例えば日本のBURRN!にね。アルバムはよく売れて、Rodとの仕事を継続したんだ。一緒に曲を書き続け、他のアーティストの作品を担当もした。

1994年には作曲家としてUNIVERSAL MUSICと契約を結んだんだ。６年間作曲に全てを費やしていたんだ。当時１年に50曲書いてプロデュースしていたよ。キツいペースだよね！

作曲と並行して、２年間ストックホルムの音楽アカデミーで学んだんだ。

1995年には、スウェーデンのダンス・バンドが録音した、本国チャートで１位を取った自身最初のヒット作を書いたよ。

1998年にはJOYRIDEというグループの１位獲得にも貢献した。

2000年には曲作りに疲れてしまって、休みを取っていた。再び自らの作品に集中して、THE MAN BEHIND THE FACEアルバムを発売したのさ。

2000年代には６枚のソロを製作して発売したんだ。

2000年代には、後にKINGS & DREAMSとなるDan Boströmとのコラボレーションも始まった。
俺達が決めたのは、締め切りなしで時間をしっかりかけた、妥協しないアルバムを作ろうって事なんだ。

俺はこれ迄に色々なアーティストやバンドと250作品位をプロデュースして録音してきた。これ迄のキャリアで幾つかの成功や幸運もあったけど、成功には努力が必要だという事も知っている。ゴールに到達する為人生で多くを犠牲にしたのも事実さ。

Dan: 俺は12歳の時にギターを演り始めたんだ、Al Di Meola、Paco de Luciaやバッハを弾いてくれた伯父のJanneに触発されてね。借り物の楽器で13歳の時地元でロックバンドを始めたのさ。両親がレスポールのコピー・ギターとPAシステムを買ってくれたんだ。地元のハコで演って、スカウト・リーダーのスタジオで１曲録音したよ。
俺の当時のギター・ヒーローはEddie van Halenだった。

高校の友達で、ギター名人のRoger Ljunggren (NIVA、GRAND ILLUSION、T’BELL)が沢山の素晴らしいミュージシャンやグループを教えてくれて、特にJOURNEYのとりこになったよ。

その後ゴスペル・グループに加入して、幅広く音楽を学ぶ事になった。同時にウエストコーストやAOR系にも導かれた頃なんだ。地元のカフェや教会で演奏したり、91年にはポーランドをツアーしたんだ。

80年代の終わりに２、３のシンフォニック、プログレッシヴ・ロック・バンドで演ってた、変拍子の曲を演ったり、書いたりしながらね。
バックVoとギターとして２、３のレコーディングにも参加したけど、大きな仕事じゃなかったな。
当時は地域に幾つかロック・バンドがあったから共通の友達を介してPeoと出会ったんだ。

90年に最愛の女性と結婚、２人娘が居て、どちらも芸術や音楽の才能に恵まれているんだ。

90年代には牧師として働き、曲作りと曲を熱愛する事を継続していた。主に小さなハコで演っていて、個人レッスンでギターを教える事も始めていたんだ。

98年にはHEARTCRYに加入した。何回かギグをやり、１年後にはアルバム１枚をほぼ完成していたのだけど、バンドの創始者が家族と一緒に引っ越さなくてはならなくなって、バンドは休止に追い込まれた。この頃、俺とPeoは再び合流し、とてもいい友達になったのさ。

Peoとの友情とコラボは俺にとって大きな意味があった。今はKINGS & DREAMSとして、また他のバンドやアーティストとの仕事も含めて、俺達はほぼ15年一緒に働いてきた。俺達には特別な絆があると思うんだ、精神的にも音楽的にもね。大体半分の時間で哲学的もしくは技術的問題を解決している。だから慌しさはそこにはない。音楽って時間がかかるものだからね。

2000年代の間は、親交プロジェクトBEYOND KNOWNで様々な種類の曲を書く経験をしてもいるんだ。イギリスの信仰アルバムでも演って、２、３枚のアルバムのプロデュースをし、他の幾つかのサイド・プロジェクトで演ったりもした。ギターを教える事も続けているよ。最近は瞑想の為のアコースティック・ギターの曲を書いていて、いずれ発売できたらいいなと思ってるよ。

S-ROCK: 1stアルバムの”KINGS & DREAM”の各曲について解説して頂けますか？どの曲がお好きですか？アルバムを聴く時にどんな所に注目して欲しいですか？

Peo & Dan:

1. Two Thousand Miles

Peo: いつもハモンド・オルガンから出る音が好きで、この曲ではこの素晴らしい楽器に対する俺の願望をはっきり聴く事が出来るんだ。Danの素晴らしいギター演奏と相まって、素晴らしいミックスになるよ！

Dan: これは、何処へでも君を連れて行く君の心に従う、という事、君の周りの人々が多分考えているだろう無頓着な部分についての曲さ。かっこいいアップテンポの曲だよ！

2. In Your Arms

Peo: この曲が全体的に良いとしても、俺はこのヴァースがとても好きなんだ！いい雰囲気で素晴らしいリードVoなんだ！

Dan: 男と女の間の神聖な愛についての詩的な曲。元々はアコースティック・ギターで作られて、コーラスや終奏でPeoのハモンド・ソロとギター・メロディーが彩を加えているよ。

3. Moments Of Grace

Peo: 俺達が一緒に書いた最初の曲の１つなんだ。ギター・ソロは短いけど気絶しそうな程かっこいいよ！

Dan: 人生の中で美点の瞬間になろうと俺達が選ぶ事は、実際には自分勝手な名声狩りや精神的な部分を駄目にする結果に成り得る。この曲が好きなんだ、後の曲作りの道筋をつけてくれたからね。Björn Milltonの凄いベース・プレイもいいよ。

4. It’s Been So Long

Peo: この曲は俺達にとって特別なんだ。 ずっと俺達が受けて来た全ての影響を象徴しているからね。ポップもロックも、ソウルやジャズの香りもすると思うよ。

Dan: 長期間離れていた小さな町に戻り、自らのルーツを再認識する男の話。このレイドバックした曲は、取っ手やドアフレーム、プラスティックのジュース・ボトルや、パーカッション（！）にPeoの膝とか、最後には交響楽団のサンプル・コード迄使ってレコーディングされたんだ。Peoの美的センスでミックスされているよ。ラジオ・ヒットになるかも？

5. Mayday

Peo: 80年代に影響を受けた典型的なAORだよ。

Dan: AOR、ウェストコースト系の曲のHRギターのミックスや、コーラスの中のコード転調が好きなんだ。Peoは俺にソロの中で二重ハーモニーも強制したよ。

6. Give It All Up

Peo: かっこ良くてスロー！

Dan: これも最初の曲の１つだね、Peoの素晴らしい歌唱の幅広さのお披露目だね。ソロの間の巧みな「ウー」の声は48のバッキングVoを使ってるんだよ。

7. Save My Soul

Peo: Danはこの曲のパワフルなエンジンさ。

Dan: 俺達の重厚な大砲から、昔演っていたHRやHMを気軽に演ってみた、Petter Karlssonの素晴らしいドラムが聴けるよ。.

8. Stay With Me

Peo: 力強いコーラス。様々な感情、情熱、愛。.

Dan: アルバムの中のロック・バラードさ。これはは俺達が一緒に書いた本当に最初の曲で、この優しくて情熱的な曲の中でお互いを探り合っているんだ。

9. Mirror Mirror

Peo: 美しい妻と幸せな男の歌。これもいい曲だね！

Dan: このパワフルなリフを演るのが大好きさ！コーラスは、君の愛する人を誇りに思う事を歌っている。

10. Down The Road

Peo: 人生の状況、喜び、痛み、成功、停滞の全ての中でもがいてきた２人の相棒達の話。

Dan: Peoは素晴らしいギタリストだよ。彼はイントロ・リックを弾き、曲の他の部分の音を設定した。派手さより、より素直なロックに仕上げるべくプロデュースしたんだよ。

11. How Can I Go On

Peo: アルバムの中のお気に入り。ミステリアスなイントロ、ブルージーなVoとへヴィーなコーラス。

S-ROCK: 曲作りをする時のアイディアはどうやって得るのでしょうか？曲が先ですか、それとも歌詞？

Peo: 大抵は音楽が先で詞が後だけど、勿論例外もあるよ。

Dan: ああ、特に他のミュージシャンとジャムってる時はそうだね。でも詞を先に書いて、そのリズムで音楽を導くのもいいよね。

S-ROCK: ２、３度SkövdeのHusarenでライヴをやっていますね、貴方達のギグを観る上で最強のポイントは？

Peo: 俺達の好きなミュージシャンの何人かと演る楽しみを得たよ：

彼等は経験豊かなミュージシャンで、ギグの前日にたった１日リハーサルしただけなんだ！全てスムーズに進んだよ！

Dan: ああ、彼等は完成されたプロで、とても一緒に働き易いんだ。”Down The Road”や”Save My Soul”は観客を一番盛り上げたと思うよ。

S-ROCK: Peo、貴方は80年代の終わりにLETIVICUSに加入して、 “KNIGHTS OF HEAVEN”アルバムをレコーディングしています。.”THE BEST OF LEVITICUS”アルバムは日本でもZERO CORPORATIONさんから発売されました。このバンドについて話すのはどうでしょう？

Peo: LEVITICUSの幾つかのアルバムをレコーディングし、プロデュースしてきたんだ。80年代の終わりにバンドのリードVoとキーボード・プレイヤーになったよ。世界中をツアーして長年素晴らしい成功を収めてきたのさ。

S-ROCK: Dan、貴方は”KINGS & DREAMS”アルバムのアートワークも担当していますね、この建物（城？）は何を象徴しているのですか？

Dan: この城は、ある伯爵が彼の妻の為に夏の避暑用に建てたものなんだ。隠れ家、王達だけじゃなく、俺達一般の人達でも休息や夢を再び燃え上がらせる必要がある時に使える場所さ。それが俺達のゴールの１つでもあるんだ。俺達を取り巻く快適さ、誠実、希望、エネルギーを広げる為にね。

S-ROCK: ミュージシャンとしてのゴールは何ですか？貴方自身ではどうですか？

Peo: 最近結婚したばかりで、フィリピンに家を買ったんだ。今はそこにスタジオを建てて、２、３年の内にスウェーデンから引っ越そうと計画している。その理由はスウェーデンの寒い気候と、太陽と暑さへの熱望だね。音楽はいつでも俺と一緒さ。
そして健康で創造的であれば、もっと多くのアルバムを製作したいね。

Dan: 俺のミュージシャンとして、そして人としてののゴールは同じなんだ。喜び、連帯感、信頼や愛のある人生の中で人々に他の面にも目を向けて貰いたいんだ。これを成し遂げる為には、アルバムを売って生活費を稼げたらいいなと思うね、そうすれば将来にわたってファンや仲間のミュージシャン達をサポートし、喜ばせ続ける事が出来るからさ。

S-ROCK: お好きな音楽、ミュージシャンやバンドを教えて下さい。

Peo: DEEP PURPLE、 WHITESNAKE、 JOURNEY、 BOSTON、 KANSAS、 SUPERTRAMPに AIR SUPPLY。

Peo: 人々が音楽を愛し、今も目標やアーティストに対して情熱を持っている国。アーティストが音楽の録音やプロデュースを続ける事を助けるCDを買ってくれるんだ。

Dan: 全くその通り！

NIVAの待望の新作MAGNITUDEが欧州で８月に発売、日本ではGRAVITATIONとタイトルを替えて９月に発売されました。S-ROCKはTony Niva (vo)とEメール・インタビューを行ない、素晴らしく、美しいAORのメロディー満載の新作についてお伺いしました。

S-ROCK: 待望の新作MAGNITUDEがAOR HEAVENから８月30日に欧州で先行発売され、日本向けにはタイトルをGRAVITATION（引力・重力）と変更して９月18日に発売されました。東北の大地震に配慮して、とおっしゃっていましたが、他にGRAVITATIONというタイトルを選んだ理由はありますか？

Tony: 実際名前の変更に関してはそうするしかなかったのさ。俺達の日本のレーベルMARQUEE/Avalonの希望だったし、何故彼等がタイトル変更を望んだか完璧に理解出来るからね。日本向けのタイトル変更についての俺の助言は、俺達の星を守っている母なる大地を表したアートワークを考慮してしっくり来る名前だと個人的に思うGRAVITATIONはどうだい、って事さ。MARQUEE/Avalonと俺は、新作をNIVA – GRAVITATIONで発売する、という事で合意したんだ。

S-ROCK: アルバムの各曲を紹介して頂けますか？また貴方の好きな曲はどれですか？

Tony: 完璧に正直な気持ちを言うと、このアルバムの曲それぞれが好きなんだ。どの曲にも物語があるのさ、それぞれの生き方みたいなものがね。このアルバムの全ての曲のアイディアは、特定の時、特別なイヴェントや特別な出来事を作曲したものなんだよ。幾つかの例を次に挙げるよ。

“Never Too Late”は、例え君がもう終わってしまった、と思っていても、新たなスタートを切るのに遅い事など決してない、という曲。自分の内に秘めたものにときめこう、って事さ。秘めた夢や才能を開放するのに遅い事なんてない、君がそうしたいならね。

“Perfect Life”は、もう十分持ち得ているのにも関わらず、もっと物質的に満たされたいともがいている様を歌った曲だ。既に得たものや成し遂げたもので満足する代わりに、俺達は完璧な人生を目指している。高い生活水準を成し遂げるのは難しいよ、完璧な人類である事に俺達の社会は抵抗を示すからね。完璧な人生なんてあるかな？君が決める事だね、君は自分の人生を生きてるんだから。

“In A Misty Light”のアイディアは、俺の友達であり隣人だった人が亡くなった時に浮かんだんだ。この曲を、今は１人で住んでいる未亡人に捧げたかった。霧がかった光の中の何処かで彼に再び逢える彼女の事を歌っているのさ。起こった事全てを処理するのと、どちらにも敬意を表する、これが俺のやり方なんだ。

S-ROCK: GOLD FROM THE FUTURE / FINAL WARNINGとMAGNITUDE / GRAVITATIONの最大の違いは何ですか？

Tony: 難しいな、GRAVITATIONはプロダクションがずっとヘヴィーで、一方でよりメロディーがあって、メロディックな感触が多く、感情豊かで、それらは作曲の段階で影響があった。今回は、アルバムのヘヴィーな部分とソフトな部分の間に統合の様なものが、曲のメジャー、マイナー調の競演に聴けると思うんだ。

S-ROCK: アルバム・ジャケットには、火を持った女性が居て、彼女は地球を見ています。彼女は次に何をするのでしょう？

Tony: 前に話した通り、彼女は手を伸ばして、この世の全ての悪から俺達を守っているんだ、俺達を見守ってね、だから俺達は間違った方向へは行かず、地球を滅亡させる事もないんだ。

S-ROCK: 貴方達はバンド名をOXYGENと替え、欧州ではESCAPE MUSICからFINAL WARNINGとタイトルを替えてGOLD FROM THE FUTUREアルバムを発売しました。何故バンド名とアルバム名の両方を替えたのですか？ファンを混乱させると思いますが…。

Tony: ああ、そうだね、混乱しそうだね。ファンや友達、家族の為に欧州でGOLD FROM THE FUTUREを出すのがゴールだったんだ。だから俺の希望に沿うレーベルを探していたんだよ。
一番関心を示したのがESCAPE MUSICだったよ。彼等は欧州向けに名前を替える事を提案し、俺は欧州でアルバムを１枚発売する為に了承した。今は欧州ではAOR HEAVENと契約して、元々の名前に戻したのさ。もうファンのみんなは困る事はないよ。将来NIVAに関して変更する予定はないからね。これからは日本だけじゃなく、全世界でNIVAの名で活動していくよ。実際最新作は俺達の日本での３枚目のNIVAの作品なんだからね。

S-ROCK: 新作の発売後はライヴの予定はありますか？

Tony: 勿論観客の前で演りたいと思ってるよ。日本のファンに逢えたらもっとハッピーになるだろうね。ライヴを実現させる為の決断をする前に沢山の事柄を検討しなくちゃならないのさ。

S-ROCK: 次のアルバム用の曲作りは始めていますか？

Tony: ああ、取り掛かってるよ。でも誰かに強制されている訳じゃない。俺達の間で進行中の継続した過程なんだ。俺に関して言えば、これは終わりを迎える事のない過程なんだ。それが俺の生き方だから。

S-ROCK: 前回のインタビュー以降、スウェーデンの音楽シーンに何か変化はありますか？

Tony: 最近は、願わくば次のアルバム用になるだろう曲を作るのに凄く忙しくて全く気にしてなかったよ。それに、ITセクターの仕事と家族の事で手一杯でもある。色んな事が今進行中なのさ。

S-ROCK: 貴方達の日本のファンと、S-ROCKの訪問者にメッセージを頂けますか？

Tony: NIVAの俺達は、素晴らしいサポートと、過去と最新の作品に対する好意的な言葉の数々を貰って日本の全てのファンに感謝したいんだ。出来れば近い将来ライヴでファンに逢う事が出来たらいいね。

*NIVA’s new album MAGNITUDE*

NIVA’s awaited new album called MAGNITUDE was released in Europe in August 2013, and in Japan in September with another title called GRAVITATION. S-ROCK had an e-mail interview with Tony Niva (vo) about the album which is full of amazing and beautiful melodies of AOR.

S-ROCK: New and awaited album of NIVA called “MAGNITUDE” was released on the 30th of August from AOR HEAVEN in Europe, and you guys changed the title of the album for Japanese market to “GRAVITATION”, which was released on the 18th of September. You told it’s because of the huge earthquake in Tohoku, Japan, why else for “GRAVITATION” to choose?

Tony: Actually, we had nothing to do with the name change in the first place. This was a wish from our Japanese label Marque Avalon and I can perfectly understand why they wanted a titelname change. My suggestion was to make a name change of the Japanese release to GRAVITATION which in my opinion was a suitable name considering the artwork with mother earth that are protecting our planet. MARQUEE/Avalon and I come to an agreement about the new album name which now is released under the name NIVA – GRAVITATION.

S-ROCK: Would you let us know each track from the album, which song(s) do you like?

Tony: I have to be perfectly honest about this and tell you that I like each and every track on this album. Every song has its own story, kind of living its own life. Every song idea for this album is composed for a specific occation, special event or a special happening. I bring up some examples below:

“Never Too Late” is about that it’s never too late to have a brand new start even though you might think it’s over. The song is all about encourage yourself to make wonders with what you have inside yourself. It’s never too late for releasing your inner dreams or talent, if you just dare to do so.

“Perfect Life” is a song about that we’re struggling for getting more and more materialistic things even though we have enough. We’re trying to reach for a perfect life style, instead of just being satisfied and happy with what you already have and what you’ve accomplished in your life. It’s hard to live up to the high standard our society are putting up being a perfect human being. Is there a perfect life? You decide, you live your life.

“In A Misty Light” came up when my friend and neighbour past away. I wanted to dedicate this song to his widow who now lives alone. This song is about her meeting with him again somewhere in a misty light. This is my way of processing everything that has happened and also giving my respect to both of them.

S-ROCK: What is the biggest difference between GOLD FROM THE FUTURE/FINAL WARNING and MAGNITUDE/GRAVITATION?

Tony: It’s hard to say but GRAVITATION is production-wise much heavier but on the other hand there are more melodies, melodic feel and emotions involved in the composing-stage. This time we can hear the cooperation between major and minor in the songs just like the intergration between the heavier and the softer parts on the album.

S-ROCK: The album jacket shows a girl having fire and she sees the earth – what will she do next?

Tony: As I mentioned before, she reaches out her hand and protects us from everything bad in the world, by watching over us so that we’re not taking wrong decision and that we’re not exploits our planet.

S-ROCK: You guys once changed the band name to OXYGEN and released “GOLD FROM THE FUTURE” in Europe from ESCAPE MUSIC as “FINAL WARNING”. Why did you changed both the band name and album title? It would get fans confused…..

Tony: Yes I know it’s a bit confusing. My goal was to release the GOLD FROM THE FUTURE for the European market for fans, friends and families. So there I was, trying to search for a label prepared to fullfill my wishes. The label showing the most interest was ESCAPE MUSIC. They suggested a name change for the European release and I agreed to that in order to have an album release for Europe. Now that we’re having our new label AOR HEAVEN, we changed back to our original name. Our fans do not have to be troubled anymore. We’re not planning of any changes for NIVA in the future. From now on I’m going to use the original name NIVA for Japan and for the rest of the world. The fact is also that the current release is our third NIVA release in Japan.

S-ROCK: Any plan like gigs after the release of new album?

Tony: We would of course like to play in front of a live audience. I would be more then happy to be able of meeting our fans in Japan. There are still a lot of issues to consider before making any decisions on having live gigs.

S-ROCK: You’ve already started composing for next album?

Tony: Yes, we have. But there is no one forcing us to write songs. This is an continuing process that is ongoing within us. Speaking for myself this is a process that never will come to an end. It’s just my way of living.

S-ROCK: Any change for music scene in Sweden since our last interview?

Tony: I haven’t reflected on that at all since I’ve been quite busy lately, composing new material for hopefully our nextcoming album. I’ve also been occupied with my profession within the IT-sector and family activities. There’s a lot of things going on right now.

S-ROCK: Would you give a message to your Japanese fans and S-ROCK site visitors, tack så mycket!

Tony: We in NIVA would like to thank all our fans in Japan for their great support and kind words for the previous and the current album. Hopefully we can be able of meeting our fans during live performances in a near future.

LOVER UNDER COVER – E-mail Interview with Mikael Carlsson (B)（日本語）

＊30年の時を経て登場したスウェーデンのAORの新星＊

1982年にRAINというバンドで一緒に活動していたMikael CarlssonとMikael Erlandsson（現LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM）が再びタッグを組み、LOVER UNDER COVERとしての活動を開始しました。
今回は、バンドの創始者でベーシストのMikael CarlssonとのEメール・インタビューをお届けします。

S-ROCK: 貴方にインタビューするのは初めてですので、まず自己紹介して頂けますか？

Mikael: やあ日本！！！こうやってインタビューする事が出来て嬉しいよ。俺はMikael Carlsson （Mr. C）、LOVER UNDER COVER（以下LUC）の創始者だよ。13歳の時に最初のバンドを始めて、これ迄様々なバンドで演ってきたんだ。ベースを主に弾いているけど、ギターやキーボードもやるし、それとハーモニカを少し吹くよ。それと料理が得意なんだ。

S-ROCK: 貴方は1989年に別のシンガーとLUCを始めましたね、その時のチームで作った曲はこの素晴らしいアルバムSET THE NIGHT ON FIREに収録されていますか？今と80年代では音楽スタイルや作曲に変化はありますか？

Mikael: あの頃の曲は２曲入ってるよ。”Crazy For You”と”Through The Storm”だ。当時リードVoだったDaniel Boscovicと一緒に書いたんだ。俺が作曲し、彼が作詞したのさ。あの頃はサウンドにもっとKeyが使われていて、よりポップな音楽を演っていたよ。新しいLUCはずっとハードで、多分少し暗めの音作りをしている。曲作りは勿論より成長しているしね。25年間もあればより多くの経験をするだろ、あの頃だったら例えば”Hero”の様な曲は書けなかったよ。

S-ROCK: 貴方とMikael Erlandsson（以下Mikael E）は30年来の知り合いだそうですね。彼はミュージシャンとして、また個人としてはどんな人ですか？他のメンバーはどうですか？

Mikael: まず第一に、彼は素晴らしいシンガーなんだ。俺達は1982年に一緒に最初のバンドを始めたのさ。RAINっていう名前のバンドで、当時俺達は17～18歳だった。あの頃Mikael Eはドラムを叩いていて、まだシンガーとしての才能に気付いていなかったのさ。彼はポップ・バラードからゴリゴリのメタル迄何でも歌える。以前から、彼の声はよりハードなロックに合ってると思ってたから、新たなLUCを始動しようと思った時、彼を最初に選んだんだ。彼は本当にいい奴で、いわゆるロック野郎とは対極にあるんだ。本当に謙虚な男だよ。キーボードも上手いしね。Martin (Kronlund)は謙虚男No.2で、この業界ではトップ・プロデューサーの１人だし、このアルバムを驚異的な仕上がりにしてくれたんだ。素晴らしいギタリストでもあるから、LUCに彼が参加したいと知った時には嬉しかったよ。彼は自分のスタジオで有名ロック・スターと仕事をした経験があるんだ、Brian Robertson,、David Reece、Joe Lynn Turner、 Rob Morati、Paul Youngや Steve Overland等、挙げればキリがないよ。印象深いね。Perra (Johansson)は俺達の素晴らしいドラマーで、バンドのグルーヴの鍵だ。”Too Good To Be True”のカッコいいビートを刻む彼の仕事を聴いてみてくれ。彼も謙虚な男なんだ…何てこった、俺達みんないいヤツじゃん、ははは。このアルバムには素晴らしいゲストを迎えているんだ。JORNのTor Erik Myhre、COLDSPELLのMichael LarssonとTENのGed Rylandsだ。それと”Hero”ではKatarina Hagerが歌っているよ。信じられる？ゾクゾクするラインナップだよね。

S-ROCK: アルバムの各曲を紹介して頂けますか、それと貴方の好きな曲はどれですか？アルバムを聴く時、ここに注目して欲しいという所は何処ですか？

Mikael: まず初めにアルバム・カバーについて語っておきたいんだ、それ自体に物語があるからね。俺とMikael Eは最初のデモテープを完成させて、MySpaceで公開したんだ。俺のグラフィックの腕は限定的で、俺達のMySpaceはクソみたいな仕上がりにしかならなかった。ある日チリ人男性からメッセージを貰って、彼も俺達のMｙSpaceはクソみたいだけど音楽は凄いって思ってたらしいんだ。で、彼は俺達のページを作り直したいと申し出たのさ。何てこった、今以上に悪くはなり様がないさと思って彼を俺達のMySpaceにログインさせたのさ…何て事をしちまったんだと思った…けど、出来てみたら最高だったんだよ！彼は凄いグラフィック・デザイナーだったのさ。彼はAndres Orenaで、彼が俺達にしてくれたのは、Derek RiggsがIRON MAIDENにした事と同じ意味があるんだよ。彼はアルバム全曲の１つ１つにアートワークを作ってもくれた。それぞれが、曲のエッセンスを掴む為の愛と感覚に溢れているのさ。80年代半ばの最初のPHENOMENAアルバムのブックレットを知っていたら、俺の言いたい事は分かって貰えると思うよ。だから、もし俺達の音楽がクソだと思ったとしても、アートワークの為だけにCDを買う価値はあるんじゃないかな、と声を大にして言いたいんだ。

“My Best Friend”はアルバムのオープニング曲で、君の顔面にガツンとメロディックな衝撃を与えるのさ。アメリカの銃規制について歌っている。全ての問題を武器が解決すると思っている多くの人が居るけれど、それには反対を唱えたいね。この曲の歌詞が本当に好きだ。

“Angels Will Cry”はヘヴィーな１曲。ピアノで始まるイントロは美しくて、そして爆発するんだ！俺達はみんなそれぞれ恋愛の経験があって、関係が上手く行かなくなった時は、苦悩を吐き出したいと思うものだよね。

“Too Good To Be True”はタイトルが全てを物語っていると思うよ。みんなが君から何かを奪おうとしている、だから気を付けた方がいい、何故なら世の中の多くの事は見た目が良い事程偽善だからね。この曲の歌詞も力強いと思う。

“Hero”は俺のお気に入りの１つ。音楽と歌詞の両方がガッチリ君を捕らえて離さないよ。この曲は父親の視点で歌われているのさ、彼の可愛い10代の娘が反逆児になっても、彼には娘の破滅への道を止めるだけの強さがないんだ。ここで２人のスペシャル・ゲストの登場さ、JORNのErik Myhreがギターで参加、Katarina Hagerが反逆児の10代の娘役を演じているよ。

“Flash In The Night” はスウェーデンのポップ・バンドSECRET SERVICEのカヴァー曲だ。80年代初めに彼等はこの曲で大ヒットを飛ばしたのさ。俺はこの曲がずっと好きで、よりパワフルにしたら面白そうだと思ってた。この曲のピアノが好きだし、コーラスでギターが応えるのもいいね。

“Set The Night On Fire”はアルバム・タイトル曲。ヘヴィーで、示唆に富んでいて、魅惑的で、いいロックの曲の要素がみんな詰まっている。デモの段階では少し様子が違っていたんだ。この曲をレコーディングした時に、俺は２～３時間スタジオを離れなくちゃならなくて、戻って来たらMartinとMikael Eがブリッジとコーラスを変えていて全く違うものになってたのさ。最初は凄く驚いたけど、新ヴァージョンがとてもカッコ良かったから、そのまま使う事にしたんだ。

“Who Needs Love”もカヴァー曲だけど、ただのカヴァーじゃないんだ。新生LUCの全ての始まりだったのさ。Mikael EがLAST AUTUMN’S DREAMのDREAMCATCHERの為に書いたこの曲のデモテープを俺が作ったんだ。でもずっとヘヴィーなヴァージョンにしたんだ。Mikael Eに聴かせたらブッ飛んで、もっと録音したいと言い出した。それがLUCの始まりだったんだよ。LADのオリジナルを聴いて、LUCのヴァージョンと聴き比べてみてくれ。

“Crazy For You”は80年代に作った古い曲の１つさ。君は猛烈な恋に落ちて、友達には理解されない、っていうラヴ・ソングだよ。彼等にはヒントが見つからないんだ、だって俺は君に夢中だから…！

“Standing In Line”は欲望についての曲。手の届かない愛への欲望…でも君はそれでも、希望と夢の答えが内なる空虚感を満たしてくれる日が来る事を祈っているのさ。

“Through The Storm”は「絶対諦めない」事を歌った曲。昔アイルランドで起こった話なんだけど、世界中の何処でも起こり得る事なんだ。多くの人達が歌詞の中に自分を見つけると思う。

“A Nice Day”はアルバム唯一のバラード。誰にとっても心地良い曲さ。典型的な”Erlandsson”節が最適な状態で提供されているよ。

“Rain Of Tears”は日本向けのボートラで、一種のラヴ・ソングで悲しいんだ。報われない愛への思いを歌っている。COLDSPELLのMichael Larssonがゲストでギターを弾いているよ。

S-ROCK: 曲作りのアイディアはどうやって得るのですか？音楽が先ですか、それとも歌詞？

Mikael: ああ、ははは…その時によって違うんだ。例えば”Hero”のイントロのピアノは街に居た時俺のiPhoneで作ったんだよ。頭の中にメロディーが浮かんで来て、一度に録音したから忘れずに済んだんだ。だから曲はさっと進んだ。歌詞はとても時間がかかったよ。２ヶ月かかったけど、結果に満足している。ギター・リフやベース・ライン、ドラム・グルーヴ、もしくは１フレーズ、単語１つから始まる事もあるんだ。いつ閃くか分からないんだよ。

S-ROCK: 最近のスウェーデンの音楽業界についてどう思いますか？

Mikael: 本当に力強いよ。スウェーデンでは全てのジャンルのバンドが居る素晴らしい環境がある。ポップ・アクトからエクストリーム・メタル迄様々さ。スウェーデンは、バンド活動をするには最高の場所なんだ。ソーシャル・メディアでは君の音楽を世界中に広める事も出来るしね、PCでクリックすればいいんだから。アルバムを発売すれば、発売日当日、もしくはそれより前にネット上に広まるから、その点については多くのミュージシャンが対策を取らないとならないけどね。

S-ROCK: 「日本」という言葉を聞いて連想する事は？

Mikael: 高崎晃！！！ははは、俺はLOUDNESSのアルバム”DISSOLUTION”が大好きなんだ、でも日本に行った事はないのさ。映画やTVで観た事だけ知ってる。本も勿論そうだ。行けたらいいな、と思ってるよ。多分、俺達と同じ位日本のファンがこのアルバムを気に入ってくれたらチャンスがあるんじゃないかな？

S-ROCK: ミュージシャンとしてのゴールは何ですか？貴方個人としてはどうですか？

Mikael: このアルバムを発売する前は、アルバム発売が目標だったよ。このバンドの他のメンバー達はこれ迄数々の作品を発表して来たけど、俺にとってはこれが初めての作品なんだ。だから、次はもっとハードルを上げようと思うのさ、フェスティヴァル出演とか、そして勿論…日本へ行く事だよ。

S-ROCK: 貴方の好きな音楽を教えて下さい。誰・どのバンドがお気に入りですか？

Mikael: このバンドのメンバーはみんなTHIN LIZZYが好きなんだ。俺はWHITESNAKEやGlenn Hughesが大好きで、PHENOMENAの1stとQUEENSRYCHEのOPERATION: MINDCRIMEが大好きなんだ。ノルウェーのJORNもいいね。スイスの新人CHAOSもいいよ。いい奴らでいいバンドなんだ。勿論俺達の友達COLDSPELLやチリのTIMELESSもお勧め。

S-ROCK: 日本に居る貴方のファンにメッセージを頂けますか？

Mikael: サポートしてくれて本当にありがとう。LUCを広める為に力を貸して欲しいんだ、どんな協力でもありがたいよ。俺達の事を君が知っている局やサイトにリクエストしてくれたら、そんなに遠くない未来に日本で演奏出来るかも知れないよ。俺達のサイトへ訪問してくれ。

In 1982 Mikael Carlsson and Mikael Erlandsson (LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM) played together in the band called RAIN, and they’re now together again for LOVER UNDER COVER.
This time S-ROCK proudly presents this e-mail interview with Mikael Carlsson who is the founder of the band and bass player.

S-ROCK: First of all would you introduce yourself as this is the 1st time for us to have an interview with you.

Mikael: Greetings JAPAN !!!!!! It’s so great to do this interview. My name is Mikael Carlsson (Mr C) and I’m the founder of LOVER UNDER COVER. I started my first band when I was 13 and been playing in a lot of different bands since then. Bass is my main instrument but I also play guitar, keyboard and a little harmonica too. I’m also a great chef 😉

S-ROCK: You started LOVER UNDER COVER in 1989 with another singer, any track from the team is on this brilliant album SET THE NIGHT ON FIRE? And any difference in music style or songwriting between now and 80’s?

Mikael: There is actually 2 songs on the album from that time “Crazy For You” and “Through The Storm” I wrote those songs together with Daniel Boscovic who was the lead singer at that point. I wrote the music and he did the lyrics. Back then we had more keyboard in the sound and sounded more “pop” music. The new version of LUC is much harder and perhaps a little darker too. The songwriting is of course more mature You get a lot of more life experience in 25 years. I could never write a song like for example “Hero” back then.

S-ROCK: And you and Mikael Erlandsson have known each other for 30 years. How do you describe him as a musician and as a person? How about other guys in the band?

Mikael: First of all he is a amazing vocalist. We had our first band together back in 1982. It was called “RAIN”and we were about 17-18 years old then. Mikael played drums back in those days and he had not discovered his singing talent yet. He can sing everything from smooth pop ballads to barbwire metal. I have always thought that his voice is more suitable for harder rock music and that’s why he was my first choice when I started to put the new LUC together. He is also a really nice guy and the total opposite of a rock diva. A really humble guy. Great with the keyboards too. Martin is humble guy No.2. He is one of the top producers in the business and he made the album sounds absolutely phenomenal. A great guitarist too, so we are so blessed that he wanted to join us in LUC. He has worked with some of the biggest rock stars in his studio. Brian Robertson, David Reece, Joe Lynn Turner, Rob Morati, Paul Young, Steve Overland, and that list goes on forever. Impressive guy. Perra is our amazing drummer and the key to the groove in the band. Just listen to his work in the song “Too Good To Be True” That beat so cool. And of course…He’s a humble guy too… Damn… We’re such nice guys, ha ha. We also got some great special guests on the album. Tor Erik Myhre from JORN. Michael Larsson from COLDSPELL and Ged Rylands from TEN. And a special appearance by Katarina Hager on the song  “Hero”. Can you believe that ? That is a freakin awesome lineup.

S-ROCK: Would you introduce each track of the album, and let us know which track(s) is your favorite. What do you want people to pay attention carefully when they listen to the album?

Mikael: First of all I would like to talk about the album cover cos it got its own story. When me and Mikael Erlandsson have done our first demos I put them up on our MySpace page. My graphic skills is very limited and that page looked like shit. One day I received a mail from a guy in Chile that also thought that our page looked like shit but that the music was great, and he asked me if he could remake it. And I thought that…what the hell…it can’t get any worse I supposed so I gave him the login to the page…What have I done …but…It turned out to be AWESOME !!! This guy was a AMAZING graphic designer. His name is Andres Orena and now he is to us what Derek Riggs is to IRON MAIDEN. He have actually made one artwork for each and every song for the whole album. And every artwork is made with so much love and feeling to catch the essence of the song. If you remember the booklet that comes with the first “PHENOMENA” album in the mid 80’s you get the idea. So I must say that even if you think that our music SUCKS it’s still worth buying just for the amazing artwork in the booklet.

“My Best Friend” opens the album and is a melodic fist in your face. It is about the gun control program in the US. It seems like there are a lot of people that think that weapons is the solution to all their problems but I have to disagree on that point. I really like the lyrics on this one.

“Angels Will Cry” is a heavy one. The intro with the piano is so beautiful and then it just explodes!! I guess that all of us has their own experiences of love and when relations have turned bad and you just want to scream out your agony.

“Too Good To Be True” I think the title says it all. Everyone wants something from you, so you better beware, cos a lot of things out there is to good to be true strong lyrics on this one too.

“Hero” is one of my favorites. Both the music and the lyrics grab you right away. The song is sung from a father’s point of view when his lovely teen daughter turns into a rebel teen and he’s not strong enough to stop the downhill race to disaster. Here we go two special guests. On guitar we got Tor Erik Myhre from JORN and a superb performance from Katarina Hager as the rebel teen daughter.

“Flash In The Night” is a cover from a Swedish pop band called SECRET SERVICE. They had a big hit with this song back in the early 80’s. I always loved that song and thought that it would be so fun to make it more powerful. Love the piano in this one and when the lead guitar “answears” in the chorus.

“Set The Night On Fire” is the title track. Heavy, suggestive, seductive, Just like a good rock song is all about. It sounded a little different on the demo stage. When we recorded it I had to leave the studio for a few hours and when I got back Martin and Mikael E had changed the bridge and the chorus to something totally different. First I was very surprised but the new version was so cool that we decided to keep it.

“Who Needs Love” is also a cover, but not just a cover. This is the song that started the whole thing with the new LUC. I made a demo recording of this song that Mikael Erlandsson wrote for LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM album “DREAMCATCHER”. But I recorded it in a much heavier version. And when I played it for Mikael he was completely blown away and wanted to record more songs. So that was the start. You have to listen to the original and compare it with this version.

“Crazy For You” is one of the oldies from the 80’s. It is a love song about when you fall madly in love and your friends just don’t understand. They simply don’t have a clue … Cuz I’m crazy for you!!!

“Standing In Line” is all about desire. Desire for the love that you just can’t  reach…yet, and you’re hoping that you one day will get the chance to fill the emptiness inside with the answer of your hopes and dreams.

“Through The Storm” is about never giving up. This story takes place in Ireland back in the old days but it could really be anywhere in the world. I think that a lot of people will recognize them in the lyrics.

“A Nice Day” is the only ballad on the album. A feel good song for everyone. A typical “Erlandsson” at his best.

“Rain Of Tears” is the bonus track for Japan, Also a kind of love song but a sad one. About the feelings in a situation of unrequited love. This one includes Michael Larsson from COLDSPELL on guitar as a special guest.

S-ROCK: How do you have an idea to compose and to write lyrics? Music first or lyrics first?

Mikael: Oh…Ha ha…That is so different from time to time. For example is the intro piano on “Hero” I made it on my iPhone when I was indowntown. That melody popped up in my head and I had to record it at once so I did ot forget it, So the music went pretty fast. The lyrics took much longer. I worked on that one for about 2 months but I’m very pleased with the final result. But it can be a guitar riff, a bass line, a drum groove, or just a phrase or a word. You never knows when inspiration hits you.

S-ROCK: What do you think of music business in Sweden these days?

Mikael: It is extremely strong. There is a fantastic range of bands from all genres in Sweden. From pop acts to extreme metal. Sweden is a great place to be if you’re in a band. And with social medias you can spread your music all over the globe with just a click on your computer. But it’s difficult to live on your music. If you release an album it will be all over the net the same day it’s released or even before that so most of the musicians have to have another job on the side.

S-ROCK: What do you image from a word “Japan”?

Mikael: Akira Takasaki!! Haha I love the LOUDNESS album “DISSOLUTION”, But I have never been to Japan. I only know what you see on films and TV. And some books of course. But I must say that it would be so cool to go there. And maybe, just maybe there might be a chance to go if the people of Japan loves the album as much as we do.

S-ROCK: What is your goal as a musician? How about as yourself?

Mikael: Before we released the album it was to…release an album. The other guys in the band have released a impressive collection of albums through the years but for me it’s my first one. So I guess I have to push the borders further this time. I would love to do some festival gigs and of course … why not go to Japan.

S-ROCK: Let us know your taste of music, your favorite musicians/bands.

Mikael: All guys in the band love THIN LIZZY. I’m also a big fan of WHITESNAKE, Glenn Hughes, I love the first PHENOMENA album and QUEENRYCHE’S OPERATION: MINDCRIME. The Norwegian band JORN is another favourite. You might check out a new Swiss band called CHAOS. Great guys and a fantastic band. And of course our friends COLDSPELL and the Chilean band TIMELESS.

S-ROCK: A message to your Japanese fans who visit S-ROCK site, please.

Mikael: Thank you so much for all support that we got. Please help us to spread the word around about LOVER UNDER COVER, because we need all help that we can get. 前回のTony NivaとのEメール・インタビューに続き、今回はRoger Ljunggren (G)とMarcus Persson (Key)とのEメールインタビューをお届けします。事実上の日本独占です。

S-ROCK: Roger、T’BELLがREPLAYアルバムを発売してから随分時間が経ち、その後GRAND ILLUSIONや他のバンド、プロジェクトの作品で演奏しましたね。そして今回NIVAで活動する事になり、バンドのメンバーとして復活するのはどんな気持ちですか？

Roger: NIVAの一員である事は本当に素晴らしいよ、関わっている全ての人達がとてもプロフェッショナルでのんびりしているしね。今より良い集団に属した事はないと思うよ。俺達が近所に住んでいて、プライベートで出掛けたりする事実は、創造性の観点から理想的な環境を作っているのさ。

S-ROCK: Marcus、これが貴方との初インタビューです。日本の人達に自己紹介して頂けますか？貴方は日本人シンガー真崎ゆかのLady Luckという楽曲を書いたと聞きました、その事について教えて頂けますか？貴方の好きなバンドやアーティストは？好きなアルバムや曲はどうでしょうか？

Marcus: 俺はMarcus、32歳で、10代の初めから作曲とプロデュースをしているよ。日本のマーケットに向けたアルバムを製作出来てとても嬉しいよ！
こういうロック・アルバムを作るのは初めての経験さ、80年代の雰囲気があって、本当に気に入ってるんだ！伝統的なスウェーデンのダンス音楽、ポップス、R&Bからメロディック・ロック迄何でも書くよ！
NIVAのアルバムのすぐ前に、真崎ゆかが俺が作曲・プロデュースしたシングルLady Luckを発売したんだ、この曲は彼女のアルバムの１曲目でもあるんだよ！
だから、この曲は俺が書いたり、プロデュースする様々な音楽のヒントになるんじゃないかな。
好きな音楽は答えるのが難しいな、だって音楽に恋してるからね、でも決めなくちゃならないなら、CHICAGOの17とTNTのINTUITIONだね。

S-ROCK: GOLD FROM THE FUTUREアルバムが日本で発売されました、とてもメロディックで80年代テイスト満載です。どの曲がお気に入りですか？作曲・作詞する時のアイディアはどうやって得ますか？欧州でもこのアルバムが発売されるといいですね。

Roger: 好きな曲を挙げるのは難しいな、その時によって変わるからね、でも俺達がアルバム全曲に本当に満足しているって事は言えるよ。
通常曲作りは作曲から始まるんだ。Rogerがクリック・トラックを使ってギター・アレンジメントを録音し、Marcusが引き継いでアレンジを担当する。
曲の骨組みが出来たら、２人で逢ってアドヴァンス・デモを作成するんだ。それをTonyに送って、彼は曲に手を加える事が出来るんだ。
歌詞についてはテーマに色々な変化を付ける様にしているんだ、ラブ・ソングもより深い結末を迎える曲もね。欧州でもこのアルバムが発売される事を本当に望んでいるんだ、こっちにもメロディック・ロックに傾倒している人達は沢山居るからね。

S-ROCK: それから、それぞれの曲の解説をお願い出来ますか？お２人は全ての曲作りに関わってますからね。Patrik TibellがI Rememberの曲作りに参加していますが、彼と貴方はもうT’BELLでは演らないのですか、Roger？

Roger: Janitor Of Love：NIVAプロジェクトを始動させた曲なんだよ。Marcusにリフを聞かせて、一緒にメロディック・ロックを書いてみないか聞いてみたんだ、そうしたら同意してくれて、常に俺のお気に入りのシンガーの１人、Tony Nivaに電話したのさ。それで今がある、と！

Anything For You：俺達みんなが好きな昔のOzzyみたいな音をちょっと思い起こさせる曲さ。

When Tomorrow Never Comes：毎月給料が入ると、ある人達はパーティーに出掛けて１日、あるいは１晩限りの王様になった気分になるだろ。

I Remember：Patrikと仕事をしていた頃完成しなかったラブ・ソングなんだ、それでこの曲を取り上げてとてもいいj感じに仕上げたよ。

Gold From The Future：ネオ・クラシック・スタイルのとてもいいメロディー。Tonyがこの曲のアイディアを持って来て、みんなが気に入ったからアルバムのタイトル曲になったんだよ。

We Must Fight：Tonyが持って来たもう１つの曲で、俺とMarcusがアレンジしたんだ。この曲には重要なメッセージが込められているにも関わらず、とてもポジティヴで盛り上がる曲になった。

I Wanna Know For Sure：ラブ・テーマのあるクラシック・ロック・ソングだ。ソロは初期のLukatherみたいなサウンドになっているんだ、どうしてそうなったか分からない！

Final Warning：スピード・メタルにABBAみたいなメロディーを持ち込めるかい？勿論！

Best Days Of Our Lives：古典的なテーマなんだ、カーペ・ディエム、つまりこの日をつかめ、って事だね、この曲はクラシック・ロックと形容されるのがベストだろう。

You：アレンジにCHICAGOのヒントがある古典的なラヴ・ソング。ソロにテレキャスターを使ったんだ、ピッタリくるバイブと感情を得る為にね。アルバムを上手く締めくくる曲になっていると思うよ。

ボーナストラックのBring Back The Joy：あの素晴らしい時は何処へ行ってしまったんだ？今の暮らしは、俺達の多くが体験した80年代とは随分変わってしまった。でも最大の違いは俺達自身の中にあると思うんだ、俺達がポジティヴな気持ちを取り戻せば、かつて生きてきたのんびりとした暮らしに戻るんじゃないかな。

T’BELLの他の曲をレコーディングするかどうかは分からないな、もしPatrikがやりたいなら、俺は勿論ギターで参加するよ！

S-ROCK: Tony Nivaはこのアルバムでライヴをやりたいと言っていました、貴方達はどう思いますか？

Roger: ライヴをやったり、ツアーしたりするには、フルレンスのライヴ用に少なくともあと１枚はアルバムが必要だと思う、NIVAのライヴを実際観たいという十分な人数の人達が居るのか見極めるという事以外にね。でも本当に居るのなら、勿論ライヴはやりたいね！

S-ROCK: Marcus、ミュージシャンとしてのゴールは何ですか？貴方個人ではどうですか？それから、日本という言葉から何を連想しますか？

Marcus: 今は自分が関わっている全ての音楽やプロダクションにとても満足しているよ。大事なのは、自分の周りに素晴らしいミュージシャン達が居るって事だね、彼等が居なければ俺は何も出来ないんだ。自分がされたいと思う事を友達にしてあげよう！時々１日が24時間より長かったらいいのに、と思うよ！残念ながらまだ日本を訪れた事はないけれど、いつか行けたらいいな！日本は素晴らしい歴史と文化があるとても興味深い国みたいだね。最近発掘したのは、君達の国の素晴らしいシングルモルト・ウイスキーだね、特に白州シングルモルト！

S-ROCK: ところで、ご自身の作品の権利を持っているミュージシャンとして、スウェーデンで誕生した海賊党についてどう思いますか？

Roger: インターネットが生活の一部である限り、人々がどう使うかという事を受け入れなくてはならないだろうね、悪い事もいい事も両方。誰かは曲を盗み、誰かは曲に対して支払う。プロジェクトが上手く進行している間は、出来るだけ多くの人達に自分の音楽が聴いて貰える事を嬉しく思うよ！

S-ROCK: 貴方にとって「未来からの高貴なもの」とは何ですか？

Roger: 今後長い間好かれ、歓迎される音楽を今作る事が出来るなら、俺はとても幸せなんだ。これが上手く行けば、俺達のアルバムはある意味未来からの高貴なものになるんじゃないかな。

S-ROCK: 日本に居る貴方のファンにメッセージを頂けますか？

Roger: みんながGOLD FROM THE FUTUREアルバムを気に入ってくれるといいな、リスナーに喜びと力を与えられるアルバムを作る為にベストを尽くしたよ。メロディック・ロックのジャンルがこれから長く生き残り続ける事が重要だと思うからね！

This time we had an e-mail interview with Roger Ljunggren (G) and Marcus Persson (Key) for NIVA. Japan exclusive actually.

NIVA has changed their band name to OXYGEN and will release FINAL WARNING album from ESCAPE MUSIC in U.K. on the 22nd of June, 2012. The album includes “Bring Back The Joy” as the bonus track for GOLD FROM THE FUTURE which was released in Japan in 2011and taking “Final Warning” away. The album jacket is changed as well.

 

 

 

S-ROCK: Roger, it’s been a long time since T’BELL released REPLAY album, after that you played for GRAND ILLUSION and other bands and projects. And this time you play in NIVA, what do you feel when you’re back as a member of a band?

Roger: To be a member of the NIVA band is really great – all of the involved are very professional and easy going – I do not think I’ve been in a better constellation ever. The fact that we live really close and also hang out on a personal level makes this project an ideal situation for the creativity.

S-ROCK: Marcus, this is the 1st time to have an interview with you, would you introduce yourself to people in Japan? I heard you wrote a song “Lady Luck” for a Japanese singer called Yuka Masaki, would you let us know about it? And which band/artist is your favorite? How about your favorite album and song?

Marcus: I’m Marcus, 32 years old, songwriter and producer, since the early teens. I’m very glad to be able to do an album for the Japanese market!
This is the very first time I’m doing a rock album like this, with the touch of the 80’s and I really love it!
I write everything between traditional Swedish dance music, pop, R&B to melodic rock!
Just before this NIVA Album Yuka Masaki released her single “Lady Luck” which I wrote and produced, the song is also the first track on her Album!
So this may give you a hint of the big variety of music I write and produce.
My favourite music is very hard to answer, because I’m just in love with the music, but if i have to decide, it will be CHICAGO 17 and TNT – INTUITION.

S-ROCK: GOLD FROM THE FUTURE album has been released in Japan. Very melodic, full of 80’s taste. Which song(s) is your favorite? How you guys have an idea to compose/write lyrics? I hope the album will be released in Europe soon as well.

Roger: For us the favorite songs for me are hard to say, it changes over time, but I can say we’re quite satisfied with all the songs on the album.
Usually when we write the music comes first. Roger records a guitar arrangement with the melody to just a click-track, then Marcus takes over and starts with the arrangements.
When the song has a “frame” we both meet up and we’re starting to do an advanced demo. This will be sent to Tony, so that he can make his input in the song . Lyricwise we try to vary the themes a lot, both love songs and songs with a deeper end.
We really hope the album will be out in Europe too, as we have a lot of people that are into melodic rock here as well.

S-ROCK: And we’d appreciate if you guys describe each track as both of you guys composed/wrote lyrics all the tracks. And Patrik Tibell joined you guys for the track “I Remember”, you 2 won’t work together as T’BELL any more, Roger?

Roger: Janitor of Love: The song that actually started the NIVA project – I played the riffs for Marcus and asked if he could consider writing some melodic rock with me, and he was totally with me there. We called up one of my favourite singers of all time – Tony Niva, and here we are today!

Anything For You: A song flirting a bit with the old Ozzy sound that we all love!

When Tomorrow Never Comes: Sometime each month when the paycheck arrives, Some people getting out to party and feel like a king for a day, or a night maybe.

I Remember: A lovesong that was never finished when I worked with Patrik, so we took it up and finished it in a very nice way I hope.

Gold From The Future: A very nice melody in the neo-classical style. Tony came up with the idea to the song, and we liked it so much it became the tittle track!

We Must Fight: Another great song idea from Tony, arranged by me and Marcus and despite the important message in the song it is very positive and uplifting.

I Wanna Know For Sure: A classic rock song with a love theme, the solo somehow sounded like early Lukather – don’t know how that happened!

Final Warning: Can you put an ABBA-like melody in a speed metal song – You bet!

Best Days Of Our Lives: It is a classic theme here – Carpe Diem – Seize The day, and the song is also here best described as classic rock I guess.

You: A classical love song with a hint of CHICAGO in the arrangement – Here we used a Telecaster for the solo, to get the right vibe and feeling – a nice ending of the album we hope.

The Bonus Track: Bring Back TheJoy: Where Have All The Good Times Gone? Life today is a lot different from the life many of us lived in the 80:s – but we think the main difference is inside ourselves, and if we try we can get back to the positive, easy going life we once lived.

I do not know if there will be any more T’BELL songs recorded – If Patrik wants to I will of course provide the guitars!

S-ROCK: Tony Niva told that he would like to do some gigs of this album, how about you guys?

Roger: To be able to play live and tour, we must have a little more than 1 album out to fill a full show, besides we will see if there are enough people that actually will be interested in seeing a NIVA show – but if that is so, we would love to play live of course!

S-ROCK: Marcus, What is your goal as a musician? How about as yourself? And what do you image from a word “Japan”?

Marcus: Today I’m very satisfied with all the music and productions I’m involved in. I think the “thing” is to have good musicians around me, without them i wouldn’t be anything at all.
Treat your friends as you wanna be treated by them!
Sometimes I wish the days would be longer than just 24 hours!
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to visit Japan but I wish I’ll some day!
Japan seems to be a very interesting country with a great history and culture to explore. One thing that has been recently discovered is your fantastic single malt Whisky, especially the Hakushu Single Malt ! 🙂

S-ROCK: Btw what do you think about Pirate Party which is originally from Sweden as musicians who have rights to your own materials?

Roger: As long as internet is a part of our life, we will have to accept the way people use it, both for the bad and good, some steal the songs, some pay for it, but as long as we can get the project going, I am happy to spread my music to as many people as possible!

S-ROCK: What is “gold from the future” for you?

Roger: If we can make music today that will be liked and appreciated for many years to come, I would be very happy – If this will happen, then our album will be gold from the future in a way.

S-ROCK: Would you give a message to your fans in Japan?

Roger: We really hope that you will like the album “GOLD FROM THE FUTURE” – We tried our best to do an album that will bring joy and energy to the listener – We really think that it is important that the melodic rock genre will live on for many years to come!

＊Niva is back!＊

1994年にZERO CORPORATIONさんからNO CAPITULATIONアルバムを発売、その後LION’S SHAREに加入していたTony Nivaが、T’BELLのRoger Ljunggrenらと組んで新生NIVAとして再始動しました。2011年９月21日のアルバム発売に先駆けてEメール・インタビューをお届けします。

NIVAはOXYGENと改名し、2012年６月22日に英レーベルESCAPE MUSICからFINAL WARNINGアルバムを発売します。同アルバムは、日本発売されたGOLD FROM THE FUTUREのボーナス・トラックBring Back The Joyを収録、Final Warningを削った作品となっており、アルバム・ジャケットも変更されています。

S-ROCK: 貴方はSWEDISH EROTICAで歌い、1994年にはNIVA名義で”NO CAPITULATION”アルバムを発表しました。そして2000年にLION’S SHAREに加入しています。その後音楽業界で何をしていましたか？

Tony: 2001年以降はアルバム製作には関与していなくて、代わりに誕生会や教会で歌う活動を続けていたんだ。この10年は沢山の曲を作る事に専念して来たよ。教育を受ける事や家族を作る事にも時間を費やした。今の仕事はIT関連なんだ。

S-ROCK: 貴方とRoger Ljunggren (T’BELL) は長い間の知り合いですが、どうやって彼と知り合ったのですか？彼はどういう人ですか？他のメンバーはどうですか？

Tony: 80年代に話を戻そう。特別なものを持っているギタリストの噂を耳にしていたんだ。俺が住んでいるSkövdeの近くにある彼の地元SkaraでRogerに逢ったよ。曲を作り始めたものの、当時はバンドの為の人材を探す事が不可能な頃で、俺はGöteborgへ移住して既に存在していたバンドに加入したんだ。話が逸れちゃたね。Rogerは今でも素晴らしいギタリストでソングライターとして大きく飛躍したよ。彼は俺の親友の１人だしね。

Marcusはキーボード担当で、バッキングVoと作曲も担当している。最初のデモを製作していた時に出会ったプロデューサーでもあるんだ。彼については話すべき素晴らしい事柄が一杯あるよ。このアルバムのVoを録音した時、レコーディングを正しく進める為に俺達が取ったアプローチがとても心地良く感じたんだ。第一に素晴らしい協力が全てで、それは成功への鍵だし、Marcusのプロの職人技と人柄の良さは非常に価値のある事だと思うよ。

Benganはよく知られたセッション・ドラマーで、Peter Anderssonはベースのゲスト出演をしている。AXIAと94年のNIVAアルバム以来だね。Plecはテクニシャンとして高い技術と経験で貢献してくれたよ。

S-ROCK: ９月21日に日本で”GOLD FROM THE FUTURE”が発売されます。この作品の音楽はとても80年代風でメロディックでAORですね。どの曲がお気に入りですか？

Tony: レコーディング中好きな曲は色々あったよ。ただ言えるのは、このアルバムの全曲にとても満足している、という事。今回はとても良いレコーディングの為一切妥協はしなかったんだ。もう１つは、近い将来発表するのを切望している新しい曲が沢山あるって事だね。初期にレコーディングする機会がなかった曲もあるし、いつもバンドの為に新たに曲作りをしているんだ。

S-ROCK: 貴方にとって「未来からの高貴なもの」とは何ですか？

Tony: GOLD FROM THE FUTUREは、同名の収録曲から取られたアルバム・タイトルだ。最初から俺達の意図は、いわば未来から持ち込んだ、今現在聴く事になる歌詞とメロディーのあるアルバムを作る事だったよ。だから、「未来からの高貴なもの」という文章は的確だという事だね。

勿論いいバンドは沢山あるさ、でも俺達のゴールは、現実の生活で俺達みんなが関わる現在の話題をリスナー達に届ける事なんだ。このアルバムをこう説明したい、願わくば、君達の心の中に入り込み、何が人生で最も重要かを客観的に見極められる見方をして貰いたいのさ。

S-ROCK: 曲作りのアイディアはどうやって得るのですか？

Tony: 俺は空想家で、新しい曲を作る為に大抵いつも歌詞を考えてるんだ。歌詞が出来上がったら、メロディーに合う様に後で編集し直す。メロディーが詞より先になる事もあるよ。大抵誰かが曲とメロディーのアイディアを持っていて、それが後に完成した曲になっていく。Roger、Marcusと俺は常にこの過程に関わっているんだ。

S-ROCK: このプロジェクトではどうやって曲作りを始めるのですか？

Tony: 最初のデモ”Janitor Of Love”をMARQUEE/Avalonへ届けた後、すぐに曲作りを始めたよ。彼等はすぐ新曲を聴きたがったんで、次は４曲入りのデモを作った。これが契約と”GOLD FROM THE FUTURE”アルバムに繋がったのさ。

S-ROCK: このアルバムの他国、例えば欧州での発売予定はありますか？

Tony: MARQUEE/Avalonがこのアルバムの全世界での権利を持っているんだ、アジア圏以外での発売もあるかも知れないね、具体的な日程は決まってないけどね。

S-ROCK: ライヴの予定はありますか？

Tony: 観客の前で演奏したいよ、でもそれはアルバムがどう受け取られるかにかかってるんだ。

S-ROCK: 誰・どのバンドがお気に入りですか？

Tony: 音楽を聴く事を本当に楽しんでいるんだ、メロディック・ロックの流れの中、特に北欧にはいいアーティストやバンドが一杯居るよね。だから、どれか１つには絞れないんだ。

勿論古いものも一杯聴いてるよ、沢山の新しいバンドの中に「過去のこだま」を聴いているんじゃないかと思うけど、それって個人的には素晴らしい事だと思うんだ。

S-ROCK: 好きなアルバムや曲はどうですか？

Tony: 俺は音楽の雑食家なんだ。NIVAの曲を作る時と同じ様にクラシックやジャズ、ブルースを聴く時は心に平和を感じるのさ。

S-ROCK: ミュージシャンとしてのゴールは何ですか？

Tony: ファンが長年ずっと聴き続けて好きでいてくれるアルバムを作る事だね。タイトル曲が示す通り、未来でも愛される何かを録音したかも知れないね。

S-ROCK: 「日本」という言葉を聞いて連想する事は？

Tony: 長い歴史と文化、興味深い環境のある国だね。あと思い浮かぶのは寿司だね、好物の１つなんだ。

S-ROCK: 日本に居る貴方のファンにメッセージを頂けますか？

Tony: HRにメロディーを取り戻す為に最大限努力したよ。君達の人生のサウンドトラックになり得る曲達、覚え易くて歌い易い曲とメロディー、聴く人に喜びと力を与える曲なんだ。みんなが”GOLD FROM THE FUTURE”アルバムを俺達同様気に入ってくれる事を本当に願ってる。
