The first film Bruce directed. I think "WITHNAIL AND I" is a movie which we'd better enjoy its atmosphere because Bruce says "Even if you can speak English fluently but it's not your native tongue you don't get it ("WITHNAIL") in "SMOKING IN BED" (by Alistair Owen). We can understand well meanings of a word, something between words and lines when it's our native tongue. And when we think of its background, it's hard to understand many things if we weren't living in those years and growing up enough to remember. We can learn what happened from papers, but we can't experience it as long as we didn't live in the past. The story is based on the time Bruce and his friend Vivian spent together, it's not either which guy is Withnail or "I" though. |
