| SHADOW MAKERS (FAT MAN AND LITTLE BOY) (Region 2, subtitles in Japanese and English)  In 1942 General Groves gets in touch with Dr. Oppenheimer. He gets bright scientists at the secret facility in Los Alamos, New Mexico and starts "Manhattan Project" as to design and build an atomic bomb, Dr. Oppenheimer is the leader of the project. They have a deadline of 19 months. The scientists complain the strict security, watch, censored letters and phone calls in the Trinity where they have only alcohol and bassball for fun. During an experiment of compression the device works wrong and a soldier gets wounded. General Groves gets to know Dr. Oppenheimer is in touch with his lover who is a communist, he really worrys about a leak of top secret and forces Dr. Oppenheimer to say goodbye. In 1944, Dr. Oppenheimer goes to the town where his lover lives and says goodbye. The scientists continue tests, but they don't find what they expect. They really get irritated. They get experts of explosive and continue the study. General Groves get irritated that the project doesn't progress as fast as he expects, and he gets an urgent message from Germany, it says German military can't build an atomic bomb. He intentionally keeps it secret from the scientists. In spring 1945, the scientists make an experiment with help from experts of explosive. Dr. Oppenheimer receives a letter which says his lover committed suicide and gets really shocked. The experiment is successful in front of him. General Gloves visits Dr. Oppenheimer at home, the scientist already knows that Germany can't build the bomb. Uranium is delivered to the facility. Dr. Oppenheimer is eager in his study again, it continues. The good news that the Allied Expeditionary Force has liberated Western Europe and destroyed enemy armies, soldiers and scientists in the facility celebrate victory. Dr. Oppenheimer says they don't need atomic bombs, and General Gloves show him the exterior of atomic bombs. 1 month before the deadline, some of scientists start having an objection to building and use of atomic bombs. General Gloves have information on the Chicago group's seeking to meet the President, they want to demonstrate the device. Dr. Oppenheimer follows General Gloves after all and give an advice of dropping the bomb at the committee which has an officer who has an objection. A pultonium core is delivered to the facility. During the scientists put the initiator in the core, a critical nuclear accident happens because of a scientist's carelessness. Michael, a scientist, touches the core by his hand. The hospital where Michael gets in is blocked. He's getting extremely worse. After a storm is over, the test of the bomb is started. It finishes successful. Dr. Oppenheimer and his fellows are praised as heroes. |
As a human being who was born and raised, and still lives in Japan, all I can say this: "No more war, no more nuclear weapon." Mr. Paul Newman passed away in September 2008, I'd like to pray his soul rest in peace. And I really prefer seeing Mr. Dwight Schultz in "THE A-TEAM". I'm a big fan of THE A-TEAM and have all the box sets of DVDs. |
