JENNIFER 8 (Region 2, subtitles in Japanese and English) ![]() A cop from L.A., John Berlin, comes to a small town where his fellow Freddy Ross works. He receives a radio saying a dead man was found at a dumping ground and goes to the location. A hand was found there as well. He gets to know they didn't identify a girl without her head and hands 2 years ago after investigating for a half year, he thinks the case with its code name "Jennifer" is linked to this "hand". John finds lots of scars of the hand and marks of fingertips and gets an idea if the girl is blind. He and Freddy goes to an institute for blind people. They meet Helena Robertson who is a friend of Amber who was seen 6 weeks ago, have an interview about the time Helena spent with Amber in the afternoon Amber left and get to know Amber has her seeing eye dog. John goes to the dumping ground again and found a dead dog, he gets a bullet of a 22 caliber gun from the head. He inquires information on shots with a 22, there were 6 murders and all the victims are young girls found within 300 miles of San Diego. John is getting attracted to Helena. She lets him know the "guy" who went out with Amber drove a Volkswagen van. He finds a van which he saw at the institute by chance, sees a cigarette end with lipstick and an empty capsule inside. The institute's manager makes a complaint about John's being around Helena, the department chief doesn't want him at the institute again. John "JK" Taylor who investigated "Jennifer" mainly doesn't like John Berlin's investigation. When Helena took a bath, she was attacked by somebody, JK speaks it to a local newspaper. John took Helena to Freddy's house. A Christmas party is held at Freddy's house. After the party John is ready to get to the institute by himself, Freddy joined him. John enters the building and leaves Freddy outside. John hears somebody is walking on the upper floor and chases, a door knocks him out, he falls down the stairs and gets fainted. Freddy was shot by a guy who calls his name. FBI questions John. The gun which Freddy was shot is John's, and it's missing, there is a conflict between John and other detectives in the department. They suspect John of the murder. During FBI's questions, Helena goes to John's house by herself and is threatened by the "criminal" who enters the house. But detectives besides John don't listen to her seriously because she's blind. John gets to know the "criminal" is an asthmatic when the FBI officer shows an empty capsule of asthma medicine which was in the ashtray of John's car. John looks for the lady who has the van which he found the cigarette end and empty capsule and follows her. He enters her house and finds JK on a photo of students of a school for the blind in the closet, and JK holds him. JK is the "criminal" of the code name "Jennifer". Next morning TV news reports that the gun which was for the murder of Freddy was found in John's house. Freddy's wife Margie bails John, he gets to know Margie drives Helena to the instistute. He takes a gun and drives to the institute. Somebody is getting to the building.....JK comes there to kill Helena. When JK drives her into a corner, he sees Margie pointing a gun at him. Margie fires shots at him without hesitation..... |
Written and directed by Bruce Robinson. He wrote the screenplay with Al Pacino in mind, but Andy Garcia was casted. He's handsome and was young (35 years old at that time) for the part. Different from the thing "A young lady falls in love with an old guy because she's blind". It's an ordinary thing in many movies that a handsome guy and a beautiful lady fall in love. You see "victims" and "rain", keywords when Bruce writes screenplays with in this movie as well. Eureka, California is a small town with about 25,000 people located to a bay near the state border to Oregon. It rains a lot in the northern California, that's why the town was chosen as the location for the movie? Bruce says "All my characters are me. I write about myself". (from "SMOKING IN BED" by Alistair Owen). It's intesteing when we imagine which part of which character is him.....? |
