BRUCE ROBINSON ROOM

L' HISTOIRE D' ADELE H. (THE STORY OF ADELE H.)
iRegion 1, subtitles in English, French and Spanishj

This story is based on diary of Adele who was Victor Hugo's daughter and a poet/music composer. In 1863 Adele arrived in Halifax, Canada from Guernsey (British territory) where she lived with her parents to follow Lt. Albert Pinson. She lodged at Mrs. Saunders' house, and visited a notary public next day to look for Lt. Pinson. She asked Mr. Saunders to pass a letter to Lt. Pinson when he went to a party of British Force, but she never received his reply. She wrote letters to describe how much she and Lt. Pinson "loved each other" to her parents, and she received money from her father at bank. One day Lt. Pinson visited her at the lodge suddenly, she was embarassed but really happy, changed her dress quickly and met him to ask for his love, but he didn't love her any more.
She kept writing how much she loved Lt. Pinson, her behavior to get his love back was going insane, she got fainted when she went to a book store for papers. She kept dreaming of nightmares about her elder sister who was drowned and suffered in mind from her hopeless love to Lt. Pinson. Her father received her letter with lies to have his approval to marry Lt. Pinson and finally allowed her . She disguised herself as a man and sneaked into a party, and showed her father's letter and urged Lt. Pinson to marry her, he treated her coldly.
Later "marriage of Lt. Pinson and Adele Hugo" was announced in newspaper. The senior officer asked Lt. Pinson about it, Lt. Pinson wrote a letter to Adele's father. Her father found she lied. He sent a letter to her to come home for her mother who had been ill, she refused.
Her behavior was getting insane and insane - she sent a prostitute to Lt. Pinson, negotiated with a quack hypnotist about Lt. Pinson. And she kept writing her love to him.....she got to know his engagement in newspaper, went to his fiancee's house to prevent his marrage saying she was expecting his baby to the lady's father.
She had to leave Mrs. Saunder's lodge as she didn't have money any more. She lied that she'd come back to her parents, and she stayed in Halifax. Her coachman took her to a place where she didn't have to pay. Lt. Pinson and master of a bookstore saw her wandering in her torn dress. A newspaper announced that her mother died and the forces of Lt. Pinson were going to Barbados Island.
Adele in rags was in Barbados Island. Pt. Pinson got to know she stayed and called herself "Mrs. Pinson". When he came to her wandering in town, she never found him any more.....

If I describe this movie shortly, it's about stalking of a daughter of a famous poet, the important thing is that Isabelle Adjani played the role of Adele. I really wonder if this movie could be "beautiful" without her. An actress who is just beautiful and pretty besides her would never give "beautifully insanity" to this movie.

It must be an adventure like going to space today for a young lady to go abroad in 19th century. In a way I envy her bravery and earnestness to get to a place where she only knew her dearest guy who never loved her any more. She could make it happen not only because her father supported her financially, but also she was strong phycially and mentally.....though she got ill mentally, she lived for over 80 years, she had the health of body definitely.

Mr. Robinson played a role of Lt. Pinson who was followed by Adele. Most of lines in this movie are in French, and he spoke the language fluently though I don't know what native French people think.....he always wore a uniform, the photo which were linked in cast page of STILL CRAZY on this site is from this movie. He really looks elegant.

I have 1 question.....a furniture which Adele put a photo of Lt. Pinson looks like a "butsudan" which is a Japanese family altar, what is it really? For Japanese people it totally looks like worship with flowers and a candle!?
